Hadrian's wall path national trail

Hadrian’s cycle way cycle route 72 (usually takes 3 days to cycle the route) takes you on a ride through some of England’s most wild and dramatic countryside. Following the line of the Roman frontier for (170 miles 274 KM) from Ravenglass in Cumbria to south shields in Tyne and Wear. This is an outstanding cycle route passing through by the Birdoswald Roman Fort, Gilsland where we are situated a stone throw away 0.5miles only 6mins by bike. www.sustrans.org.uk

The Pennine Way

It usually takes 16 to 19 days to walk the trail and is the oldest and arguably the most iconic of Englands national trails. Starting in the peak district and stretching north to the Scottish borders 268 miles (431 km), it is one of the most challenging, but rewarding long distance walking routes and is steeped in history. www.nationaltrail.co.uk The Pennine way is one of the best-known long-distance walks in England due to its unique beauty and oasis of tranquillity.  Passing around Greenhead, the walking trail is 1hr 14 mins from Slack House Farm on foot but only 8 mins by car/taxi.

Cycleway Route 72

Hadrian’s cycleway route 72 is a 170mile/ 280km (14-hour cycle) route on the national cycle network, connecting Ravenglass to South Shields. The route goes past the RSPB Campfield Marsh reserve and just beyond, Bowness-on-Solway and the start of Hadrian’s Wall.

Cycle route 72 runs mainly on country lanes and quite roads, interspersed with sections of traffic free path, promenade and riverside path. As the route is either on minor roads or well surfaced off road tracks most bikes are suitable, but there are a few steep, short hills in the central section of this route.

Most people are able to complete the route in 3 days but for those wanting to stop and enjoys the numerous attractions along the way it is more likely to take 4-5 days.

As well as magnificent costal views and breath-taking countryside you will be within touching distance of the famous wall itself, Roman Fort and museums, quaint villages and attractive market towns all set in a world Heritage Site.

We are situated just off cycle route 72 and only 0.7miles/ 6min cycle from Birdoswald Roman Fort making us a perfect pit stop, to relax and recharge overnight, ready to continue your exciting journey.

The Pennine Cycle Way Route 68

Cycling the trail – most of the route is signposted route 68, usually takes 7-9 days.
An unforgettable route along a mix of quiet road, rail paths canal towpaths and forestry roads. From Edale in Derbyshire to Berwick-on-tweed on the Scottish border 350 miles (563 km). Passing by Haltwhistle on your route, Slack House farm is 40 mins by bike or 57 mins from Once Brewed. Finishing on the East coast where the main line rail service has fast trains direct to London, Edinburgh and into the midlands.

The Pennine Way Motor Cycle Route

The Pennine Way motorcycle route recreates that special feeling by traversing the quiet and beautiful roads. The route takes you past  Haltwhistle, which is 13 mins from Slack House Farm by motorbike.

The Northumberland 250

This trip can take as little as 1.5 to 4.5 days. A 250 mile loop around Northumberland this journey will take you across the most northern and sparsely populated county in the country. Home to the darkest skies in Europe, vast beaches, and ancient forest.
